My Spork Date

While Grampy and Grammie were in town, I got to go on a date with my man, Parker! He took me down to the mission district in San Francisco. It’s a vibrant part of the city buzzing with care free twenty somethings, young families and fun hipsters.  Interesting shops lined the sidewalks featuring a film production company with a storefront displaying their latest independent film. If you take a peek through the window of the locked front door, you will see them hard at work making their next feature. Quite entertaining!

We chose to eat at this little spot called Spork! Its funny name based off the previous restaurant tenant KFC. Yep, it was Kentucky Fried Chicken that came up with the iconic utensil known as the Spork. Part spoon, part fork made to scoop up your mashed potatoes or spear your coleslaw. A good, multi-use utensil for any occasion that you might need in a silverware shortage.  It’s also quite a fun name for a restaurant.

Spork was frankly quite tasty! They delivered a hot, pull apart rolls to your table to help ease your hunger pains while the food was being prepared. The menu offered a variety gourmet Americana dishes that were enticing.  I ordered their “right side in” burger. The caramelized onions and special sauce on an all- natural beef patty with the freshly made bun was AH-MAZE-ING.  Parker ordered the crispy chicken plate and cleaned his plate.

Then, of course, we had to have some dessert.   We shared an ice cream that included chocolate covered potato chips, but the best part was that we got to eat it with a SPORK!

The check came with a little treat to eat in the shape of a burger.  Super cute.  Let’s just say that this date was not only satisfying to my romantic soul, but very inspiring.  What I have come to love about San Francisco Bay area is that there are many creative businesses  that are based on their ideals not just the bottom line.   xoxo
